Dream Definitions
"Let's get to the bottom of this." That is a phrase that you may have used or heard a boss use it. It means let's cut through the haze and understand exactly what a problem is so you can solve it. It the business or objective world, we have logical systems to "get to the bottom" of what is going on in your universe or at least in your immediate life.
But when it comes to understanding our dreams, we often internally "throw up our hands" in frustration because we allow ourselves to function under the mistaken belief that we cannot put any definition to what is going on in our dream lives. And without definition of what is happening in those visions and images in our subconscious, there is no way to "get to the bottom" of what your dreams mean to you.
First of all, it is not true that we cannot understand what dreams are, where they come from and what is most probably the reason we have dreams. There is actually plenty of information available already at your disposal to "get to the bottom" of what you experience in your dreams. By applying a different kind of logic to studying your dreams, you can at least understand in general what your dreams are saying to you and in doing so, take one step closer to understanding them and understanding your own mind.
The first step to understanding any problem is to document it. So as good scientists, that is a good step toward putting some definition to your dream life. By starting a "dream journal" you can document exactly what you saw in your dreams. That detail, when you collect it night after night will begin to reveal patterns. Then after you have a few weeks or months of documented dreams, just by stepping back and looking at them logically, the pattern of what is happening in your subconscious will jump out.
To keep a dream journal, you have to make it a habit to record the dream as quickly after you have it as possible. That means if you are awakened at 3:30 in the morning with a dream, get up and record it. Each morning, if there is a dream lingering in your mind, write down everything you can remember about it. This exercise will help you begin to sort out what is going on in your dreams. You will see repeated circumstances, people, places and symbols.
The next step is education. There are plenty of scholarly books out there that are written to be understood by regular people about how to define what you are seeing in your dreams. With your dream journal in place, you have lots of material to work with to use the guidance of experts in the field of the subconscious to interpret what your dreams are communicating. Armed with real information, you really can "get to the bottom" of your dream life once and for all.
